Submit Your Order: Customers submit their order through One Legal, uploading necessary documents, including the writ and sheriff instructions.
Dispatch to Contractor: One Legal assigns a local contractor to handle the delivery. The contractor is provided with a check to cover any required fees.
Delivery to Sheriff: The contractor delivers the documents to the Sheriff’s Civil Process Division, pays the fees, and obtains a confirmation number or receipt.
Completion: The job is considered complete once the contractor delivers the documents and provides the confirmation. A delivery notice with this information is shared with the customer.
Check Status: Customers are responsible for checking the Sheriff department directly for the status of their writ execution or service.
Sheriff Delivery is available in select California courts. For more information on which courts are available, please reach out to your CSM or AE.
Customers must provide the documents required by the Sheriff’s Civil Division.
For example, if the customer requires that the Sheriff execute a writ this includes the writ itself (e.g., Writ of Execution, Writ of Possession), the Sheriff’s instructions form (e.g., SER-001), and any other required documents that may vary depending on the county. It’s essential to consult your local rules and requirements for Sheriff delivery in your specific county to ensure all necessary documents are included. Failure to provide a complete set of documents could result in delays or rejection by the Sheriff’s office.
The delivery is complete once the documents are delivered to the Sheriff’s office and the required fees are paid. One Legal will provide you with a tracking number or case number as issued by the Sheriff’s department. After that, it is your responsibility to check the status of your case directly with the Sheriff’s department. For example, Los Angeles County cases can be checked through the Sheriff’s Case Inquiries portal at LA Sheriff’s Case Inquiries. Each county has its own system for tracking the status of cases, so be sure to consult the Sheriff’s office in the county where your case is being handled.
The customer must complete the same case information page used in all our standalone physical product workflows (Physical Filing, Service of Process (SOP), and Courtesy Copy Delivery (CCD).
