Court updates this week

New local rules are proposed, Presiding Judges are elected, and court operations plans are updated.

Butte County

eFiling service is once again available after being out-of-service on Thursday, September 24th.

Imperial County

Due to improvements in the COVID situation in the county, the Court has prepared a Master Plan to Fully Restore Court Services, calling for a phased approach.

Kern County

eFiling service is once again available after being out-of-service on Thursday, September 24th.

Los Angeles County

The Presiding Judge-Elect posted a press release confirming that safely restoring access to justice remains a top priority in the upcoming term.

The Court provided a sixty-day notice of plans to reduce hours for the Clerk’s Office.

The Court is seeking public comment on the proposed budget for the current fiscal year.

Napa County

The Court has posted proposed revisions to local rules regarding Family Law forms.

Recruitment for the Civil Grand Jury, including eligibility requirements, has opened.

Orange County

The Court has shared the following information:

“Effective immediately Orange County Superior Court will not be accepting electronic filings for Paternity or Family Law Adoption cases until further notice.  For Paternity and Family Law Adoption matters: please deliver hard copy filings to 341 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868.”

Filers can use the Documents exempt from eFiling option in the One Legal filing workflow until eFiling is available in these case types again.

And

“Effective immediately, the upcoming hearing date must be included in the filing description box along with a complete description of the document being filed/submitted. Example: “Next HRG 10/1/20 Opposition” or “Next HRG 10/8/20 Proof of Service”.”

Placer County

The Court updated its court operations overview as of September 24th.

The Court has announced updated actions in response to risk of COVID-19 in the county. These include postponement of traffic and non-traffic infraction pre-trial matters and small claims cases to be heard remotely, among others.

Riverside County

An Order from the Court allowed the Court to order that sessions be held anywhere in the county and permitted any judge to extend statutory deadlines within certain time periods.

Sacramento County

The Court has ordered that all persons entering the courthouse must wear face coverings.

San Bernardino County

The Court has announced that the Needles courthouse will reopen once per month starting October 2020.

The Court has proposed new local rules effective January 1, 2021.

The following Emergency rules have been issued:

Family Local Rule 1H mandates eFiling for ex parte or emergency orders.

Family Local Rule 5 is regarding applications for exp arte or emergency orders.

Family Local Rule 6 is regarding settlement and case status conferences.

The Court Community Outreach Committee for the county announced a new voting educational initiative.

Judicial assignments and location changes were announced this week, effective in the coming weeks.

The Court has continued all small claims actions currently pending to a future date beginning with January 4, 2021.

The Court has ordered that courthouse access be restricted to persons with appointments or essential business, allows any judge to suspend rules that would prevent the court from using technology to conduct proceedings, and more.
