About eFiling in Illinois

Illinois has recognized the benefits of eFiling since back in 2002, when it first introduced eFiling the state supreme court. By 2012–despite the state’s best efforts–eFiling was only available in 15 out of 102 counties. This year that all changes, as the efficiencies of eFiling now open up to the entire state.

As of now, eFiling is permissive in these Illinois courts, with more joining every month. It is the state’s goal to have mandatory eFiling in every court by January 1, 2018, with a few exceptions. Now is the time to choose an eFiling service provider that works for your firm >>

How to start eFiling court documents in Illinois

As a court-approved and certified eFiling service provider in Illinois, we’ve taken care to develop a highly rated solution that is as simple as it is effective.

Step 1: Create a One Legal account

It only takes a few minutes to create a One Legal account, or add yourself to your firm’s existing account. There is no obligation or contract, and we will waive all eFiling fees for the first 30 days.

Step 2: Connect to eFileIL

Sign into eFileIL, the eFiling system on the court side, with your bar number or the bar number of your attorney. This verifies your identity and ensures that all filed documents are securely connected to your firm. You’ll only need to do this once, and the One Legal system will prompt you if you need to create an account for the first time.

Step 3: Submit an order

One Legal is the all-in-one solution for eFiling, eService, physical court filing, service of process, and court research and retrieval. We also offer extensive concierge filing services, including an add-on Double Check feature to help you feel confident about the success of the documents you’re sending to court. Follow the step-by-step workflow for a streamlined eFiling process.

Step 4: Track and confirm your order

Our platform confirms immediately that the document reached the courts. Once it has been reviewed by a clerk, you’ll receive a notification of acceptance or rejection, and can track further status updates on your account page. All of your filings and court-returned documents are stored permanently and there are no caps on storage.

Step 5: Easily reconcile filing charges to clients

Our really simple billing means that One Legal pays all court filing fees, including statutory court fees upfront on your behalf. You get access to clear monthly statements and individual invoices for each transaction making reconciling filing fees to client accounts a breeze!

Illinois’ new statewide eFiling implementation is one of the most promising approaches to comprehensive eFiling that we’ve witnessed since the dawn of this technology. We are excited to be a part of this important legal technology solution and look forward to many successful partnerships ahead.
